WELCOME TO GARDEN COTTAGE NURSERY
Kent College’s Garden Cottage Nursery, located in Canterbury, offers the warmth and security of an extended family environment to babies and children from 0 – 3 years old.
Children benefit from the socialisation and other advantages that come with the highest standards of nursery care, within the kind of relaxed home-from-home atmosphere you would expect with a nanny or childminder.
Our dedicated and experienced team adapt to the needs of every child and their parents, and whether they join us for just mornings, afternoons or for whole daycare, the children receive the individual attention that allows them to be happy, to develop and to thrive.
LEARNING, DEVELOPMENT AND PLAY
We know that each child is unique and will develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. We focus on three developmental areas: physical, language and communication, and personal, social and emotional development.
For our youngest children, the nursery offers plenty to stimulate them as they develop strength, mobility and hand-eye coordination. Our early years provision offers separate learning and creative spaces where children can focus on literacy and numeracy and begin to explore the world around them.
CHILDREN BUILD CONFIDENCE, LEARN TO UNDERSTAND DIFFERENT FEELINGS, AND TREAT EACH OTHER WITH KINDNESS. |
WELLBEING AND PASTORAL CAREThe care and wellbeing of your children is our number one priority. All our babies and children develop and thrive in the safe and nurturing care of highly professional and attentive staff. The Lodge accommodates up to 12 babies and toddlers at any one time and its calm rest areas are equipped with dream coracles and sleep mats allowing babies and toddlers to sleep undisturbed, while still being monitored regularly. Delicious fresh food and bespoke menus are cooked on the premises and we offer a family style breakfast club where children attending the school can eat breakfast with their younger nursery siblings. |
ACTIVITIES AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
We support each child’s physical development through a range of activities that encourage fine-motor skills, gross-motor skills and sensory exploration, as well as encourage each child’s independence in self-care as they develop. This is from cooperating with caregiving experiences to beginning to feed themselves, to toilet Learning.
Children have the opportunity to mix with the Reception pupils,
and the GCN is often visited by the older KC Year groups.
AN IMPRESSIVE RANGE OF CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Children are given opportunities to explore and observe the world around them through different environments, living things and natural objects as a part of understanding the world.
We are able to utilise the wonderful facilities within the Kent College Junior School and have regular picnics in the grounds and nature walks. The children visit the school library and also utilise the Sports Hall and tennis courts for activities. Our younger children love the experience of visiting the animals at nearby Moat Farm, the school’s full working farm only a short walk from the main Senior school campus in Canterbury.
