A CULTURE OF CARE
We welcome a diverse range of specific learning needs and pride ourselves in our holistic approach to supporting children with special educational needs.
All students with a diagnosed SEN have a pupil passport to accompany them in their learning journey. This is written by the SENCo in close collaboration with parents and pupils. The pupil passport is shared with teaching staff and provides key points from their specialist assessments, so that staff can refer to when planning and teaching all curriculum lessons.
Pupil passports are personalised for each child with notes of what "works'' in terms of differentiation or support in mainstream classes, as well as key points from parents and pupils. The pupil passport is a dynamic document that changes and develops as your child grows and progresses.
In addition to a pupil passport, some children may have an individual learning plan (ILP) which outlines very specific learning targets they will be working on with a specialist teacher or teaching assistant. We have two specialist Dyslexia teachers on the staff and are able to put parents in touch with a range of other specialists who can come into school to provide bespoke interventions. These include speech therapists, Dyscalculia therapists and play therapists. A bespoke timetable is organised for your child so that interventions are integrated into a balanced weekly timetable.
Many of our interventions take place in the Learning Strategies Centre, which is a light and airy room at the centre of the school. The room is well resourced with laptops and we have a large range of multi sensory learning resources to support our intervention work.
