KENT COLLEGE TEAM TRIUMPHS AT THE FARADAY CHALLENGE
The Faraday Challenge is an engineering competition for children in Year 8. Kent College hosted teams from different schools to take part in this challenge day. Their brief was to design an electronic-based system to make road use more accessible, sustainable and safer.
The team representing Kent College designed a solar-powered pressure sensor which could be installed in cycle ways, footpaths or bridle ways to turn on lighting when triggered. This lighting would then switch off one the user had passed through that part of the path.
Teams were given marks on their planning, device development, budgeting, teamwork and their final presentation. Our KC team scored 89/100 which was the highest score on the day and won them the trophy.
The highest 5 scores nationally go on to compete in the finals held at Silverstone in June. Fingers crossed for our winning team: Josh, Saskia, River, Esther, Tsz and Leo.
