KENT COLLEGE GOLD DOFE EXPEDITION IN NORTH WALES
Our recent Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold expedition to Snowdonia was a great success. We had two groups out on the hills, who made the best of the weather that North Wales could throw at them. Navigating in mountainous terrain is quite a challenge but our students worked together to come out on top!
Whilst students must be challenged in this kind of expedition, their safety always remains paramount. For this reason, we carefully monitor weather conditions and adjust routes accordingly. We are fortunate to have a group of experienced mountain leaders, both external staff and from within the teaching body, who can keep our students safe and help to direct their navigation.
The pupils demonstrated a positive attitude and showed perserverance throughout the expedition. Although physically very taxing with no shortage of blisters, our students approached every new challenge with a 'can do' attitude which did them, and by extension the school, proud.
Kent College's DofE programme aims to push students, allowing them to thrive. The camaraderie shown by our students, including their openness to others, their resilience and their ambition was very rewarding to see. The staff would like to congratulate the students for the way in which they conducted themselves from beginning to end.
We now look forward to an assessed expedition to the Lake District in July.
