THE FRANK MASON HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 2024
The Frank Mason Hockey Tournament, a boys’ hockey tournament played with local schools every year, was hosted at Kent College on Thursday, 1st February 2024, in memory of school alumni Frank Mason who attended the school during the 1910s. Frank was proud to be a member of the first Old Canterburian Hockey XI in Folkestone in 1936.
The tournament was a great success, with 15 schools competing for the coveted trophy. The teams played with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, making it a memorable event for all involved. The tournament was organized by our wonderful sports department, who did an excellent job of ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
Frank Mason was a well-known figure in the hockey community. He qualified as a member of the Southern Counties Hockey Umpires’ Association and as an international umpire, becoming Secretary and a valued committee member of the Umpires’ Association. Frank served the Old Canterburian Club most loyally, rarely missing a reunion dinner and acting as President in addition to serving on the Committee until 1965. He died in September 1966.
The Frank Mason Hockey Tournament is a fitting tribute to Frank’s legacy, and it is heartening to see so many young people come together to celebrate his life and love of hockey. We look forward to next year’s tournament and hope that it will be just as successful as this year’s event.
We must congratulate Langley Park on their triumphant win and give an enormous amount of kudos to Tonbridge School, the runner up!
